Sustainable travel – conscious travel
Jul 24, 2025
Here are a few thoughts and suggestions from us.
Of course, everyone sees it a little differently – and that's exactly what makes it exciting...
For us, traveling means discovering—new places, new perspectives, new sides of ourselves. But how can we travel without harming the environment? Sustainable travel doesn't mean forgoing adventure. Quite the opposite: It's about experiencing things more consciously—packing light, keeping an open mind, and making fair decisions.
1. Arrival: The journey is part of the destination
Train instead of plane? For many routes, it's worthwhile. While airports are overcrowded and highways are regularly stuck in traffic, the train ride can be the first leg of your vacation: relaxing, climate-friendly, and with a view out the window.
Yes, we know: the train isn't always on time. But it often brings us closer to our destination – in both senses of the word. Those who travel slower see more. And often, it's precisely during the wait that something unexpected happens: a conversation, a smile, a pleasant break.
2. Travel locally, enjoy locally
Sustainable travel begins with the question: Does it always have to be far away? Sometimes new things are closer than you think. Unfamiliar villages, natural paradises, or favorite places just around the corner are waiting to be discovered.
And on-site: prefer small, personal accommodations to anonymous chains. Regional breakfasts. Dinner at a family-run establishment. This makes travel a meeting place – with people who tell stories. And with places that cannot be exchanged.
3. Travel with respect
Sustainability means not only protecting the environment, but also being mindful of people and cultures. Travelers are guests, and as guests, they behave with respect.
No selfies with animals. No photos of people without consent. No littering in the countryside—it sounds obvious, but it isn't always. The more we think about it, the more we stay connected: with the place we are—and with ourselves.
4. Take less, experience more
A lot of things end up unused in your suitcase. Our recommendation: choose carefully what you really need. Favorite items that can be combined in a variety of ways are often sufficient. And they create space for what really matters while traveling.
Conclusion: Sustainable travel means connected travel
With nature. With people. And with yourself. It's not a sacrifice, but an invitation: to genuine experience. And that's exactly what TORLAND is all about—conscious travel and leaving traces that don't burden you.
