TEX-DAN pilot project: Local production in the Danube region – Our new denim skirt
Sep 02, 2025
Between March and July 2025, we at TORLAND implemented a special project that took us a further step towards a sustainable supply chain: the pilot project within the framework of TEX-DAN , a program co-funded by the European Union to promote sustainable innovation in the Danube region.
Initial situation
Our previous collections were produced in Turkey – reliably, but with high minimum quantities. This made it difficult for us to quickly test new ideas or produce small batches. Furthermore, locally sourced fabrics were not previously part of our supply chain, and small-batch production processes were unfamiliar to us.
Objective of the project
With TEX-DAN we wanted to change something:
-
Build local production to become more independent and flexible.
-
Develop small series that allow us to bring new products to market more quickly.
-
Incorporate recycled materials to contribute to the circular economy in fashion.
Specifically, we decided to develop a denim skirt as a pilot piece and have it manufactured locally.
Collaboration with Nadine Schratzberger
For this project, we were supported by Nadine Schratzberger , founder of the sustainable brand Montreet . With her expertise, she supported us in planning, pattern creation, finding a suitable manufacturer, and coordinating production. Her expertise was a real asset to us.
Production in the Czech Republic
Thanks to Nadine's support, we found a great partner: MIBA near Prague. There, we first developed a prototype, then a sample, which was then revised again after careful testing. Finally, we were able to produce a small series of 50 denim skirts .
The skirts are made of high-quality 10 OZ denim with the following composition:
-
83% organic cotton
-
15% recycled polyester
-
2% elastane
The result: a modern, sustainable product that is now available in our online shop.
More flexibility through small series
The successful implementation of this project has not only given us a new product. We have also established the processes that will enable us to produce locally and in smaller quantities in the future. This means greater flexibility for us, more room for innovation—and an even more sustainable offering for our customers.
outlook
The denim skirts mark the beginning of further projects within the framework of TEX-DAN. These primarily focus on know-how transfer and coordination with other companies to promote a sustainable textile industry in the Danube region. Starting in summer 2025, we aim to use these structures to develop further locally produced products.
The skirts are now available in our online shop – a piece of sustainable fashion with a clear vision for the future.
